Pilates Group Reformer Course
for Exercise Professionals
You must be a registered Group Exercise Instructor and/or Personal Trainer in order to attain Fitness Australia CECs.
Pre- requisites – Level 1 matwork course
We have developed this new course in response to Fitness Australia’s endorsement of Group Reformer courses for qualified fitness professionals.
This course is targeted at the experienced exercise professional who wants to take their Pilates exercise classes from the Mat to the Reformer and deliver professional, effective and safe classes to their clientele.
This course requires
- Equivalent to 12 days face to face training and assessment
- 30 hours of self practice
- 10 hours of class observation
Course content
- A repertoire of 150 Reformer exercises
- Analyzing each exercise for its benefits regarding strengthening, flexibility and application to specific conditions and clientele
- The principles and practice of core stability, breathing and alignment in analyzing and working with each exercise
- Posture principles and improvement techniques
- Considerations for pregnancy and the post-natal client
- Considerations for common musculoskeletal complaints
- Practical learning about the right way to engage the pelvic floor – we use real time ultrasound to teach you these principles
- A focus on well-structured classes, safety and selecting exercises for specific clientele
- How to develop class plans and sequencing the exercises
- Effective cueing and the language of Pilates and how to communicate this to your clients
- Developing effective observation skills, corrections and exercise modifications
- Understanding each exercise in the repertoire and how to modify down or advance a client performing exercises
Assessment – all during the course
- Short written quizzes
- Completing course manual question pages
- Assessments of short sequences of exercises
- Final assessment of design and deliver a 45 minute class to the group.
